REC Photo Contest

Richland Electric Cooperative (REC) is having another photo contest for REC members in 2012. Get your camera ready to take more great photographs of the greater Richland area. With the beautiful seasons we have here in southwest Wisconsin, hopefully you can capture some vibrant photos of the winter, spring, summer and fall seasons and local scenery. Winning photos may be used in cooperative publications as well as on the website.

Photo Contest Criteria

  • Photos must reflect the greater rural Richland area.
  • Emphasis in photo should be on landscape and nature, not a person.
  • Photos will be judged by REC employees.
  • Photos must be taken and submitted between January 1, 2012 and November 30, 2012.

Photo Contest Rules and Details

  • Contest will run from January 1, 2012 until November 30, 2012.
  • All Richland Electric Cooperative members 18 years old and over are eligible to submit photos.
  • Limit two photos submitted per member.
  • Photos may be any appropriate subject or scene, but must be taken in the Richland Electric Cooperative service area.
  • Must be 18 years and older to enter contest.
  • Member must own rights to photo.
  • A completed entry form must accompany each photo.
  • A permission form must be completed and signed for any photograph of a minor child.
  • Printed photos may be submitted. Original photos will not be returned. Photos must be quality studio prints as photos on home printers or copy machines are not high enough quality to be used in print publications. Do not write on the photo.
  • Digital photos must be at least 300 dpi and at least 12" x 9" or larger. Do not send scanned photos as they are not high enough quality to be used in print publications. Digital photos can be sent to ed@richec.com.
  • Photos must have a horizontal (landscape) orientation.

Photo Tips

  • Be sure your photo is clear and sharp. Fuzzy photos cannot be made sharp enough to print.
  • Look at your photo with a critical eye. Ask yourself if it would be of interest to a wide variety of people.
  • Make sure the background of the photo does not detract from the subject of the photo
  • Study photos in newspapers and magazines and analyze what makes them appealing.
