Billing Details
Once you have electric service installed you will receive a monthly statement from REC. This statement will include information about your electric usage including the current meter reading and the previous meter reading. The facility charge pays for costs incurred by the cooperative regardless of whether or not you use electricity.
It pays for such things as postage, billing, meter reading, line losses, outage repairs, interest expense, government required reports, public benefits funding, and a host of other items that must be done every month. Your electricity is sold to you in kilowatt-hours (kWh). One kWh is 1000 watts running for 1 hour. The total number of kWh you use each month is shown on your bill and is derived by subtracting the previous meter reading from the current meter reading. Bills are due on the fifth day of each month. If you are late in making your payment, a 1.5% late fee or $1.00 will be assessed, whichever is greater. Accounts not paid in full by the 20th of the month are subject to disconnection.
