2010 Annual Meeting
A large crowd attended the 74th Annual Meeting of Richland Electric Cooperative held Thursday, March 25, 2010, and honored retiring director Ed Ehorn for his service of 38 years on the Board of Directors. Ehorn was presented with a framed print honoring his dedication in serving the members of REC for nearly four decades.
During the director election to replace Ehorn's seat on the board, Tim Tiller defeated Scott Hoffman. In other elections, Don Huffman was re-elected to the number one open position and incumbent Gerald Wendorf defeated Ron Kepler for the number two open position. After the elections were completed, Judy Murphy was then re-elected to serve as the REC representative on the Dairyland Power Cooperative board of directors.
Board president Gilman Moe talked about the economic downturn last year and its effects on REC members. Moe said "Cost containment, fiscal responsibility, and an understanding of what our members are going through is what sets us (REC) apart. As a board, we are all paying these costs as well, which allows us to bring the members feelings into the board room - it gives our decision making a human touch, unlike many of our nations corporations."
In addition to Moe's report, CEO/General Manager Shannon Clark and Dairyland Power Co-op board representative Judy Murphy each gave reports during the meeting.
The featured speaker of the meeting, Bill Oemichen, President and CEO of Cooperative Network, spoke about the important roles cooperatives play, not only in their local communities like Richland County, but nationally as well.
For the fourth consecutive year, Richland Electric Cooperative was presented the Human Interest Award for being adjudged foremost among the electric cooperatives of Wisconsin for consistent and effective presentation of human interest material in the local pages of the Wisconsin Energy Cooperative News magazine. They also received the photography award for their use of photographs in the magazine.
