Special 75th Annual Meeting

Senator Dale Schultz presents citation to REC Board President Gilman Moe (click for photo gallery)Richland Electric Cooperative received special recognition from the Wisconsin State Senate during the co-op's 75th annual meeting held at the Richland Center High School on Saturday, March 26th. State Senator Dale Schultz presented the Citation by the Wisconsin Senate, which noted how "Richland County farmers joined together 75 years ago to start Richland Electric Cooperative, to meet the need for power to serve agriculture and enhance the quality of life for rural people." The citation went on to recognize Richland Electric Cooperative for its 75 years of leadership in the cooperative movement in the state of Wisconsin and congratulated all members, past and present, for 75 years of outstanding service and innovation.

All three incumbent directors were re-elected to the board during the meeting. Judy Murphy, Calvin Sebranek, and Dan Hillberry were elected to the number one, two and three open positions, respectively. After the elections were completed, Judy Murphy was then re-elected to serve as the REC representative on the Dairyland Power Cooperative board of directors.

The co-op was also presented the N.F. Leifer Memorial Journalism Award during the business meeting. The Leifer Award recognized Richland Electric Co-op for being adjudged consistently the best of the Wisconsin Energy Cooperative News magazine editions published monthly during 2010. The co-op also received an award for the best human interest material in 2010 in the magazine, marking the fifth consecutive year for that award. The co-op also received an honorable mention for the best use of photographs in the magazine for 2010.

General Manager Shannon Clark (Click for photo gallery) In addition to the election of directors, CEO/General Manager Shannon Clark, Board president Gilman Moe and Dairyland Power Co-op board representative Judy Murphy each gave reports during the meeting. Prior to the business meeting, breakfast was served in the East Commons of the high school and the Jim Gorman band provided music. A free blood pressure check was also available at that time.

Guest Speaker Jerry Apps (click for photo gallery)The featured speaker was Jerry Apps, an award winning writer who spoke about growing up on a farm without electricity and how important it was to him and his family when they were able to "flip the switch" for the first time after they were connected to the electric lines of their local electric cooperative.

A special 75th anniversary gift was given to each membership upon registration and numerous door prizes were given away throughout the day, including the grand prize of a 37 inch Panasonic HDTV.
